Gist's corporate social responsibility programme is based around four key areas:

  • Business Compliance
  • Community
  • Environment
  • People

Business Compliance

Business Compliance

Gist is an organisation that adheres to high standards within every aspect of its business. We also require these same ethical business practices from our suppliers and business partners.

How do we do this?

Gist conducts its business responsibly. We conduct our business in accordance with our Code of Ethics
-Our suppliers and partners trade with us in accordance with the Code of Ethics
- We promote good corporate governance by ensuring our teams are compliant with our ISO-rated internal standards and our corporate policies in areas including safety and procurement.

Our performance:

Every Gist employee has had or is scheduled to receive, face-to-face or online Code of Ethics training.
- Every business unit is reviewed annually against our company standards. All compliance activity is reviewed and agreed on an annual basis with the British Standards Institution (BSI).

Community

Community

At Gist, we are committed to giving back to the communities local to our sites.

How do we do this?

  • Local links with community groups enable site colleagues to raise money for causes that mean the most to them.
  • Fundraising takes place across all Gist sites all year round, from Red Nose Day to Macmillan Coffee Mornings.
  • Gist colleagues have been involved in a variety of projects ranging from transforming gardens and outdoor spaces for use by children and young people to visiting local schools to provide reading support and deliver curriculum-related presentations.

Environment

Environment

Colleagues have a critical part to play in achieving our shared Plan A ambition. We’re committed to exploring new, evidence-based ways to reduce our carbon footprint across our fleet and site network – as we seek to become a net zero business by 2035.

We have pioneered leading-edge environmental initiatives such as the efficient use and design of vehicles, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, and improving recycling schemes for packaging and waste.

We are constantly finding new ways to minimise the impact of every aspect of our business on the environment.

Gist has:

  • 100% renewable electricity at all UK sites
  • a logistics fleet made up of 100% Euro 6 DAF trucks
  • extensively improved the aerodynamics of our vehicles
  • installed roof-mounted fridge solar panels to reduce fuel use
  • adopted Microlise driver telematics for more than 90% of our drivers, to measure and monitor driving styles
  • actively engaged in a range of ongoing trials including CNG vehicles, and zero-emission electric and CNG refrigerated trailers.
