"I started my journey with Gist when I joined the Operations Management Industrial Placement scheme in Thatcham. Since finishing my Business Management degree at Cardiff University, I have returned to Gist to join as an Operations Management Graduate at Hemel Maylands. My current job role is a Warehouse Team Manager.
I was unsure about what sort of role I would like to go into but knew an Operations Management placement would give me the opportunity to learn about logistics, as well as gain the confidence to manage a team of people.
During my time at Gist my people management skills have developed the most; when I first started, the idea of managing people who were older and more experienced than myself terrified me. After a lot of support from other managers, managing a warehouse of operations quickly became second nature.
Moving from Thatcham to Hemel Maylands has allowed me to experience a different contract which will set me up well for my future career, and I can't wait to work in other parts of the business.
I was surprised at how much responsibility I was given at Gist, even as a placement student. While at Thatcham, I had my own team of operatives which allowed me to develop my management style.
For anyone wanting to apply to Gist, my main tip would be to remain people-focused. Showing your interest in people and their development throughout the interview process will set you apart. Good Luck!"
