Gist’s first ever Engineering Grad begins his journey
After completing a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Loughborough University, Charlie Oretti has recently joined Gist as its first ever Engineering Graduate.
“Working as part of a team has always been the most enjoyable way for me to work. I knew I would get lots of opportunities to meet new people and work collaboratively at Gist. Transport is an industry which will go through a lot of change in the near future, with the introduction and adoption of new technologies. For me, this makes a career in logistics exciting, and something I wanted to be a part of.”
Currently based at Gist’s Hemel Hempstead site, Charlie’s graduate scheme will see him transition to head office over the next three years. With his educational background giving him plenty of technical skills, Charlie saw the graduate scheme as a perfect opportunity to develop himself in other ways. “I wanted to develop my people and management skills, things like communication and leadership. Logistics is an industry I didn’t have much prior knowledge about or exposure to, so I am excited to see how my skills are applicable and how I can continue to learn.”
Charlie’s had no issues settling into life at Gist so far. “Everyone has really taken the time to explain to me how everything works around the site, which I’ve appreciated. Everyone is friendly and I’ve enjoyed getting to meet so many new people. Gist is clearly a company where everyone is trying to do better each day. It’s collaborative, and it’s been great to see (and learn) how the different areas of the business come together.”
Charlie’s first project sees him working on the trial of the Transicold Carrier eCool electric trailer. “I’ve taken responsibility for data collection, and it will be great to quantify the environmental benefits a transition towards cleaner fuel sources may have.”
